《Connecting Two Worlds: Ten Years of Audio Description Development in Hong Kong》Producer: The Hong Kong Society for the Blind Introduction: This book tells the story of audio description in Hong Kong from its inception, including how the film industry has taken part in projects that seemed to solely belong to the social welfare sector. The author interviewed a number of service users whose stories show how the visually impaired lived from the 70s and 80s to the present. There is no single “correct” way to do audio description. The book introduces some of the basic techniques and discusses controversial principles from a local perspective, covering the viewpoints of audio describers of different factions and users. Audio description service has long been relying on volunteers. Volunteers came for different reasons: meaning, satisfaction, fun etc. They all emphasized that instead of a one-way “let me help you”, it is more about appreciating each other and there is mutual dependence between volunteers and users. Running a non-profit service for minorities is never easy. Audio description service in Hong Kong has received wide and sustained support from the media, the business community, the film industry and volunteers. What are the secrets behind this? Available in bookstores. Should you have any enquiries, please contact staff from the Information Accessibility Centre at 3723 8325.
