Jockey Club Tuen Mun Home for the Aged Blind
Introduction
Established in 1996, the Home offers 209 slots in care and attention section and 34 slots in infirmary care section for the visually impaired elderly.
Special Services/Facilities
This innovatively designed Home consists of three five-storey square shape buildings. The central block houses all facilities including laundry, kitchen, medical care, dining rooms, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hydro therapy pool, recreational area, activity room, doctor consultation room, multi-purpose assembly hall and sensory garden, etc.
Scented Garden
Occupying a gross floor area of over 10,000 square feet, the Scented Garden is installed with safety mat footpath, rockery fishpond, shaded pavilions and fitness equipment. Residents can perform their morning exercises or spend their leisure time inside the garden planted with seasonal scented flowers, shrubs and trees.
The Building
The building is designed to maximise the use of natural lights and fresh air to conserve energy and improve indoor ventilation. The wooden-frame glass sky roof provides natural lighting for the Home during most of the daytime.
Dormitory
Every dormitory is installed with split-type ceiling heater and air-conditioner, independent toilet and shower room, as well as adjustable hospital beds, personal wardrobes and bedside lockers. Each dormitory can accommodate four to six residents.
Activity Room
The activity room locates on the third floor, providing spaces for recreational uses as well as a venue for hosting visitor activities.
Physiotherapy Room
Equipped with a variety of physiotherapy equipment, professional physiotherapist offers assessment, planning, and relevant physiotherapy and rehabilitation services for the elderly blind to maintain their physical conditions.
Hydrotherapy Pool
The pool is equipped with eight hydro-massage jets and stainless steel handles to provide rehabilitation trainings, physiotherapy, as well as for relaxation, for the residents.
Multi-sensory Room
This therapy room is assisted with systematic visual, auditory, olfactory, taste, and tactile stimulations. With the therapy provided by the Dementia Care Service Team, residents are able to experience pleasant and meaningful sensory stimulation in a comfortable, quiet and relaxed environment. It was awarded the “2009 Best Practice Awards in Social Welfare” by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service.
