“Touch the World” by The Barrier Free Access (HK) Limited

This technology combined the use of tablet, phone application and tactile images. It allows users to touch various sensory images while simultaneously listening to corresponding audio information or verbal descriptions of the visual content. This can help visually impaired better understand information and learn.

Additionally, this solution can overcome some of the limitations of traditional tactile images, such as the need to separate text and images for display, making it more convenient to use.

We exhibited a map of Shek Kip Mei in the Exhibition, which can help visually impaired identify the streets and landmarks around The Hong Kong Society for the Blind. This not only helps visually impaired better understand the local environment and community resources but also improves their mobility and quality of life.

We also provided interactive experiences for visitors to the exhibition, allowing them to experience the effectiveness of tactile learning materials firsthand. Many visitors gave positive feedback and recognition of the innovation and practicality of the materials and expressed their concern and support for the learning and life of visually impaired. We hope to introduce the application of tactile learning materials to people from all walks of life, especially to provide learning and exploration resources for visually impaired.

The application scope of Touch the world is very extensive, and we can produce different types of tactile learning materials according to the needs and requirements of users, such as route maps for mobility and orientation training for visually impaired, exhibits in exhibitions, diagrams and structures of various subjects etc. This would help visually impaired better grasp knowledge and improving their learning and quality of life.
