HKSB Continuous Support on Thematic Course on Supporting Students with SEN

The Education Bureau advocates an inclusive education approach to take care the needs of SEN students in normal school. One of the key factors to reach the goal is to provide training to the teachers and that is what The Education Bureau keep holding on-the-job training courses. The Hong Kong Society for the Blind was commissioned by the Education Bureau, second year in a row, to host a ten-day full time on-the-job training course - focusing on students with visual impairment. It aimed to raise the teaching ability for teacher when facing student with sensory, communication and physical needs.

The training was held from 8 to 19 May, 2023 with 35 teachers completed the course. Teachers learned and understood more about various eyes diseases and methods to communicate well with visual impaired persons. They also learned about HKSB services through visits. Besides this, the training inside Ebenezer School was arranged and, through the exchange with the school teachers, to let the participants to get a better understanding of the learning needs and curriculum adaptation for visual impaired students. We hoped that the training course could help teachers to get to know better of the needs for the visual impaired students, and let them apply to a practical use – to co-create a better teaching material and re-adjust to a better teaching model, which benefit the visual impaired students.  

Participants could handle better of the VI teaching tools after exchange thoughts with teachers from Ebenezer School  Visits to HKSB Rehabilitation Centre, Centralised Braille Production Centre, Family Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired and Information Accessibility Centre were arranged
 

35 teachers from primary and secondary school participated in the training course
