The Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant: Family Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired - “Visually Impaired Lets On Stage – Musical”

With the generous support from the Mabs Mardulyn Charitable Foundation, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant: Family Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired launched a one-year “Visually Impaired Lets On Stage –Musical” Project since February 2021.  The Project provided a series of drama, chorus and musical training workshops for the visually impaired children and youth members of FRC Choir and the Dream Theatre Club.  It aimed to explore and nurture the music potential of the members and provide mutual sharing platform for the visually impaired members and the sighted volunteers to learn from and appreciate with each other.  The public awareness and concern for the visually impaired would be aroused for better social inclusion.

After more than a year’s intensive training and rehearsals, the long-awaited premiere of “Visually Impaired Lets On Stage – Musical” performance was held on 31 July 2022 at the Multimedia Theatre of the HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity with almost full house with public support and applause.  In addition to seeing the remarkable results of the team's effort for more than a year, the audience could also see the touching smiles with joy and confidence on members’ and their parents’ faces which fully demonstrates the Society’s core values.

The “Visually Impaired Lets On Stage – Musical” was indeed a very inspirational and meaningful set of original musical as its screenplay was based on the life stories of the visually impaired.  The story tells how the heroine, Yan Yan, solved the misunderstanding with her family and friends due to congenital blindness with an optimistic and positive attitude.  All the songs were originally written by the team led by the renowned music producer, Mr. Kenneth Fong in response to the plot.
