General Eye and Low Vision Centre

Introduction
Established in 1984, the General Eye and Low Vision Centre in Shek Kip Mei is one of the service departments operated by the Hong Kong Society for the Blind. Another branch in Yuen Long, the General Eye and Low Vision Clinic, was set up in Yuen Long in 2001. The two Centres together, provide high quality medical eye care and low vision services to the general public and the visually impaired.

Objectives
To provide comprehensive ophthalmology and optometry health care services to prevent blindness through early detection and treatment 
of eye diseases, as well as optometric low vision service for the visually impaired to maximize their residual vision for everyday lives.

4. Ophthalmic Day Surgery Services & Medical subsidy for Eye Operations (subject to funding availability) 
5. Vision Screening Service (for organization only)

Service Target
The general public (including patients with eye diseases and visually impaired etc.) No referral is required. 

Service Charges, Payment Methods & Special Attention Items
The Centres charge significantly lower fees for consultations, medications and surgeries compared to the private sectors. Recipients of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance, people with visually impaired receiving Old Age Living Allowance, and people with visually impaired aged 60 or above are also eligible for different subsidies (such as eye examinations, medications, spectacles and visual aids subjected to funding availability).
