Where did you go on the National Day and Chung Yeung Festival in October? International White Cane Day is on every 15 October, celebrating people with visual impairment who started to use white cane to walk independently for more than eighty years.

 

Why is it called “white cane”? Because it is in white color. Sometimes, you may find different colours of the cane, visually impaired persons would like to stick some fluorescent stickers on the cane to allow the passengers and drivers to see them more easily. On the other hand, deaf blind persons would use the cane in red and white colour. Similar to other products, white cane has multiple places of origin, such as the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, and etc. The major material of white cane are graphite or aluminum, while those made in Hong Kong are only aluminum one.

 

White cane is the eyes of the visually impaired persons, they use the white cane to detect if there is any danger on the road, it is very important to them. Next time, if you was kicked by a white cane, it may be hurt, but you will never suffer from bad luck.
