HKSB 55th Anniversary – Open Days

To celebrate the 55th Anniversary, Open Days were organized on 14-15, 22 and 29 October 2011 for service units at HKSB Headquarters, in Tokwawan and Tuen Mun Districts respectively. We aimed to introduce to public visitors our services rendered to the visually impaired, to deepen their understanding about the difficulties and the needs of the visually impaired persons. In addition, a “Living in a Barrier Free Society” programme was staged during the Open Days to give participants a special experience to move in a total darkness, to explore how barrier free facilities were able to assist the visually impaired persons to minimize their difficulties in their daily life.

We were grateful to Mr Patrick T K Nip, JP, Director of Social Welfare and Mr Zhang Tie Fu, Director General of Social Work Department, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in HKSAR, for their presence to officiate at the “55th Anniversary Open Days Kick-off Ceremony” in the morning of 14 October 2011.

Two experienced volunteers, a senior staff member, two senior visually impaired members and a senior resident shared their days and experiences in HKSB with Ms Chita Yu, a young singer cum song-writer, at the Ceremony. Chita also encouraged the visually impaired members to live positively and happily.

The four-day Open Days recorded an attendance of about 2,000 visitors, who had the chance to visit various service units and try out some of the services that we offered to the visually impaired.
