Marathon Charity Concert
The Marathon Charity Concert organized by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant: Parents Resource Centre for Visually Impaired Children (PRC) was held on 6 and 7 March. The objective of the event was to raise public awareness on caring the eye sight of children. Apart from staging the Charity Concert, to promote the importance of children eye disease prevention, vision screening was conducted for more than 400 children aged from 4-16.
We were grateful to Ms. Han Shu Xia, Secretary General of the Youth Department of the Liaison Office of Central People’s Government in H.K., for her attendance out of a busy schedule as Chief Officiating Guest at the Kick-off Ceremony. Two visually impaired teenagers, Ms Ruby Lee and Mr Lee Wai Tak and a group of visually impaired little angels sang the theme song “Remember to do vision screening” with piano accompaniment by Mr. Lee Hin, Angel of The Arts with the Disabled Association. By using a familiar melody and interesting lyrics, the audience might remember the importance of regular vision screening for early identification of eye sight problem. The piano playing performance by Mr Lee Hin and “Paper Tearing art” demonstration by Master Uncle Man amused all the audience.
A wide variety of performances, namely: piano playing, guitar playing, violin playing, singing, dancing, Taekwondo, orchestral performance, and etc. had been given by over 220 performers both visually impaired and sighted, at the two-day Marathon Charity Concert. A total sum of around HK$60,000 had been raised for financing further service development of PRC. In addition, there were exhibits and experiential games about common children eye disease to enhance public understanding.
Thank for the staunch support of the Co-organizers: Success Piano Company, Engery@Candy’s Music and SHK Volunteer Team, the Concert was held successfully with encouraging feedback.
