In June 2023, a deafblind member who had a passion for savoring specialty coffee stumbled upon the siphon brewing method, which utilizes vacuum and pressure balance to extract coffee. The operating principle involves using an upright siphon coffee maker, by heating the water in the lower chamber to generate steam, and the expansion of gas increases the pressure on the water surface, forcing the hot water to flow upward through the central tube to the upper chamber where the coffee grounds are placed. This unique brewing method brings out a rich, clear flavor profile, presenting a layered and full-bodied taste.

After that, the member became an instructor and passed on this technique to nine other deafblind members. The process of siphon brewing is like a scientific experiment, where brewing time, water temperature, coffee-to-water ratio, and even stirring time need to be precisely controlled. It was a significant challenge for the members. However, with the assistance of communicator guides, they gained in-depth knowledge of coffee, learned equipment management skills, hospitality etiquette, and underwent repeated practice, internships, and assessments. Now, the deafblind siphon baristas are officially making their debut after half a year of learning.

Ten deafblind siphon coffee baristas are now employed by a catering social enterprise called "Limitless Coffee." They frequently brewing aromatic coffee for different customers at charity events or business occasions. The positive feedback from customers have greatly boosted the baristas’ confidence and self-esteem.

These baristas not only face customers in unfamiliar environments but also rely on their sense of smell and touch to brew coffee with utmost concentration. They showcase the unique abilities of deafblind and express their joy in being able to serve customers a cup of rich and flavorful siphon coffee.
