“A Trip of Memories” 64K Bus Routes Ready in Yuen Long Home for the Aged Blind

In November 2023, the “A Trip of Memories” program received a generous donation of the “Caring Bus Stop Sign” (Route 2F) for the Kowloon Home for the Aged Blind from Kowloon Motor Bus (1933) Limited (KMB). The program has shown remarkable results, with 80% of the aged blind participants demonstrating a significant improvement in overall cognitive health. These outcomes were presented during a media interview with Hong Kong Radio Television, as well as at a symposium for local elderly care professionals.

Extending the Journey of Brain Health Care

This heartwarming initiative expanded to the Yuen Long Blind Elderly Home in January 2025.

With ongoing support from KMB and a three-year cross-sector partnership, The Hong Kong Society for the Blind (HKSB) Residential Services has collaborated with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies to extend the innovative Narrative-based Cognitive Stimulation Program (NCSP) to the Yuen Long Home for the Aged Blind.

The program incorporates portable brain-computer interface (WBCI) technology developed by Dr. Lau Hin Chung’s biomedical engineering team at PolyU, allowing elderly individuals to “revisit memories” in an immersive manner. By recreating life scenarios, such as “taking KMB Route 64K to buy wife cakes in Yuen Long”, the Narrative-based Cognitive Stimulation Program (NCSP) enhances engagement and improves therapeutic outcomes.

On January 15, 2025, Ms. Lily Cheung, Director of Residential Services, and Mr. Armstrong Chiu, Occupational Therapist, were invited to speak in the sharing seminar of innovative use of bus pole - “A trip of memory” along with over 20 local NGOs stakeholder and overseas practitioner in KMB depot. It hopes to cultivate the sense of “cognitive health” in the community.
