As a follow up programme to the “Be a member of communication barrier-free ambassador” Volunteer Programme 2006, the center organized an Orientation and Mobility Training for volunteers, deafblind family members, carers, rehabilitation workers and special school teachers. Orientation and Mobility Training (O&M) is a systematic and scientific training approach to teach individuals who are visually impaired, blind, or deafblind to travel safely and independently in a familiar or unfamiliar environment. It includes the use of canes, senses training such as touch, olfactory and audio to gather information about their surrounding environment. The O&M training is important to deafblind so that they can locate the abstract spatial concepts and mobilize safely as well as independently.
