KINGDOM Swimathon for Brightness 2007

It is our pleasure to announce that the Guinness World Records have approved our application of breaking the record for "Most participants in a swimming relay in one hour" :
The record for the most swimmers to complete a lap within one hour is 159 and was set by swimmers from Guangdong and Hong Kong in an event organized by the Hong Kong Society for the Blind at La Salle College Swimming Pool, in Hong Kong, China on 14 October 2007.

Venue:

La Salle College (18, La Salle Road, Kowloon, Hong Kong)
Guangzhou Administration Centre For Paralympic Sports (Wayao Ling Road, Hebian Village, Xinshi Town, Baiyun District, Guangzhou)

Time: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm

Hong Kong Participants: 1,500 (Including senior government officials / celebrities / Olympic or Asian Game swimming medalists/visually impaired swimmers)

Format:

  1. 8-hour relay swim (6 pax in a group & half hour for each group)
  2. Breaking the Guinness World Record (150 participants to do 20 m relay swim within 1 hour)

Event Objectives:

The objectives of this event are to arouse public awareness of the needs and abilities of the blind and visually impaired and at the same time to raise funds for the following purposes:

  1. To launch I.T. projects for the blind in Hong Kong, so as to enhance their employment opportunities;
  2. To support prevention of blindness projects in Asia launched by the Asian Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness;
  3. To construct Mobile Eye Treatment Centres in China which provides free and low cost cataract surgery to the poor cataract patients living in remote areas in China and;
  4. To improve the facilities of Blind Schools in China and to set up Educational Resource Centres to assist the visually impaired students to integrate and study in regular schools
