Residential Homes for the Visually Impaired Elderly

Introduction

The Hong Kong Society for the Blind has been committed to provide quality service for people with visually impaired. Under the service mission of diversified services to meet the varied needs, residential homes for the visually impaired elderly are established to provide residential care according to their physical health conditions.

Two levels of care are available:

1. Care and Attention SectionPhoto of Residential Homes for the Visually Impaired Elderly

To provide nursing care and rehabilitation service to those who require more intensive care.

2. Infirmary Section

To provide intensive medical and personal care to the frail elderlies.

The Society is now operating four Homes for the Aged Blind in Shamshuipo, Tokwawan, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun Districts. The service capacity of each home is as follows:

Kowloon Home for the Aged Blind
Capacity : 78 Care and Attention places for the female only.

Bradbury C&A Home for the Aged Blind
Capacity : 52 Care and Atention places. 

Yuen Long Home for the Aged Blind

Jockey Club Tuen Mun Home for the Aged Blind
Capacity : 240 for both sexes including 200 places for Care and Attention Section and 40 places for the Infirmary Section.

Admission Criteria

  • Aged 60 and above

  • Being certified by ophthalmologists as legally blind

  • Free from infectious diseases, and fit for group living

Application Procedures

Applications can be made through Family Service Centres of the Social Welfare Department, medical social services and other welfare agencies.

Fee Charges

According to the fees standard set by the Social Welfare Department for subvented homes.

Discharge ProceduresPhoto of Residential Homes for the Visually Impaired Elderly

Residents are free to apply for discharge from the Homes. If residents are no longer meeting the admission criteria of the Homes or their behaviour puts other service users at risk, after intervention by the social worker which turns out in vain, the Home will notify the guarantor to assist in the discharge of the resident. Referral to alternative placement will be made whenever necessary.
