Welcome Message from the President
of the IMC International Committee
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to attend the 12th International Mobility Conference (IMC) in Hong Kong. IMC has a tradition of offering practitioners, consumers, researchers and administrators an opportunity to exchange ideas, research results and strategies to improve and further develop Orientation and Mobility services throughout the world.This tradition began in 1979 in Frankfurt and has taken a path via Paris, Vienna, Jerusalem, Eindhoven, Madrid, Melbourne, Trondheim, Atlanta, Coventry and Stellenbosch to Hong Kong.
The IMC International Organizing Committee was particularly delighted to accept the invitation of the Hong Kong Society of the Blind to hold IMC 12 in Hong Kong since this venue fits perfectly in the philosophy of IMC to make the conference accessible to interested persons in all parts of the world. The Asian venue obviously suits the strategy of IMC to reach out to all continents. For the first time, the participants will have the opportunity to experience the development and status of O&M with an emphasis on Asia.
Mrs. Grace Chan and her staff have put together committees and advisory groups, whose work I have followed closely. Thus, I can assure you that this IMC will offer a superb program in an unforgettable cultural framework. It will be well worth your time and effort to attend.
