Introduction

The Information Accessibility Centre strives to eradicate IT illiteracy, foster a digital network society and provides a wide range of infotainment services to people with visual impairment via accessible media and IT advancement. Its services include Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capacity building programmes, improvement of tele-digital voice library, enrichment of braille and talking book collections and enhancement of loan service to visually impaired persons, and expansion of customer base.

Objectives

• To facilitate visually impaired people of all age groups in Hong Kong to have full access of information and on-line resources;
• To empower visually impaired persons to leverage Internet applications and ICT to improve their quality of life;
• To promote wider adoption of international accessibility standards in local technology developers and IT industries;
• To narrow digital divide and help visually impaired persons mainstream into information society.

Visually impaired persons in Hong Kong.

Membership Criteria

Hong Kong citizen certified visually impaired by registered ophthalmologists.

How to join the Centre

Applicants should complete an application form and provide the document certifying visual impairment.

How to withdraw from the Centre

Applicants should notify the Centre of the withdrawal personally. Withdrawn members may re-apply for membership.
