Introduction

The HKSB has been committed to provide quality service for those who are visually impaired. Committed to provide diversified services, residential homes for elderlies with visual impairment were established to provide residential care depending on their physical health conditions.

 

Objectives

Provide professional and comprehensive residential care to elderlies with visual impairment for better living qualities.

Dementia care service

Since 2002, dementia care service was included in residential service together with Dementia Supplement of the Social Welfare Department. The service team comprises of social workers and occupational therapists to provide evidence based activity and continuing career support training.

 

Homes for the blind elderly:

The resident is devided into two sections:

1. Care and Attention Section

Provide nursing care and rehabilitation service to those requiring special care.

2. Infirmary Section

Provide intensive medical and personal care to elderlies requiring intensive care.

The Society operates four homes for the aged blind in Shamshuipo, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun. Service capacities of each home are listed as follows:

Capacity: 243 male and female openings, including 209 slots in care and attention section and 34 slots in the infirmary section.

Capacity: 80 male and female openings, including 60 slots in care and attention section and 20 slots in the infirmary section.

Service Target

  • Elders aged 60 or above.
  • Certified as legally blind by ophthalmologists.
  • Free from infectious diseases, and fit for group living
  • Those in need of personal care and attention in daily lives and are unable to live at home.

 

Fee

Based on fees standard issued by the Social Welfare Department for subvented homes.

 

Application Procedure

Applications can be made through Integrated Family Service Centres of the Social Welfare Department, medical social services and other welfare agencies.

 

Withdrawal / Discharge Procedure

Residents are free to apply for discharge from the Homes. If residents no longer meet the Home’s admission criteria or their behaviour puts other users at risk, and if intervention by the social workers are in vain, the Home will notify the guarantor for discharge of the resident. Referral to alternative placement will be made if necessary.
