Career Support and Development Centre of the Hong Kong Society for the Blind has been committed to assist people with visual impairment in their open employment, enhance their potential and contribution to the society.
Most of the visually impaired job seekers possess certain degree of experience and qualification in which some possess tertiary education or above. They are full of skills, including working on law, financial and management, social work and information technology profession, etc. As a matter of fact, after equipped the visually impaired with proper adaptive equipment such as screen reader, magnifier, screen magnifying software and braille display, etc., most of them could handle different jobs and work requirements like other people.

Positive Outlook: Through workshop, to help the visually impaired job seekers to improve self-concept, to learn social manner, to develop good working attitude and enhance their ability when facing adverse circumstances

Job Practice Internship arrangement Office simulation, shop practical training, in order to gain the valuable working experience
Supportive Service for Employers Selling and loaning of adaptive equipment e.g., magnifying software, braille display, low vision aids, etc. Employee job counselling and follow-up service e.g., follow-up service during work, help to adapt the new working environment, to harmonise with communication between employer and employee Job development and training Provide skills training according to the needs of different posts
Aids and Appliances Service
Objectives
Offering the lowest prices and suitable aids and appliances services to the visually impaired. Through using the adaptive equipment, to enhance the daily living skills of visually impaired people so as to live independently.
Services • Selling aids and appliances at relative lower price • Teaching of using method to those potential aids and appliances buyers • Providing updated information and advice on aids and appliances
With donation from Mr. Charles Chan and financial support from the “Sight Restoration Campaign Fund” set up by the Lions Club of Happy Valley and the Hong Kong Society for the Blind, the first employment portal for the visually impaired-- “Cando.hk” was officially launched on 3 July 2009. The website consists of different modules, namely, I Can, Give Me a Chance, Success Story, Employers’ Sharing, Job Seeker Guide, Vacancy and Useful Link. All employers are welcome to visit the website for finding suitable visually impaired employees to fill your job vacancies, while the visually impaired service users will be using the website to introduce themselves for job seeking.
